Born in Neunkirchen, Saarland, Germany Barbara Röder has been a resident of Ireland since 1993. She holds a degree in Social Education and worked for ten years in the Youth Welfare Department Saarbrücken, Germany. Upon completion of her studies in Stonemasonry/Sculpture, Mainz, 1993, her interest in psychology immediately became apparent in her work. Röder's sculpture manifests an incredible sensitivity, gentleness of spirit and subject matter, yet tough, bold and impeccable perfectionism of design and material. "Her sculpture is tactile, wants to be physically touched, enhancing each subject as it touches our mind". She works predominantly in stone such as Sandstone, Marble, Slate, Granite and Limestone, but also incorporates other materials like metal, bronze, wood and glass. "Röder endeavours to grasp the 'essence' of the human being and give it tangible form", member of the SSI (Sculptor`s Society Ireland) and of the NSF Cork. |
